First of all, let's close the loop on the Reunion Cruise cancelation. Kudos to Rannieta for all of her coordnation efforts.  Many were due refunds and she quickly acted to begin the process so that everyone would receive a full refund.  We're aware that many also already had flight arrangements and we do apologize for any inconvenience this is causing. Many airlines do not offer refunds, but hopefully you will be able to use any credits issued on your next planned travel.  Again thanks and we appreciate everyone's patience as we work through these details.

Next update ... we are shifting gears.  We asked for a vote for MD and you voted. We also heard many concerns about switching the reunion year to 2020 as it conflicts with already planned obligations for the off year.  With that said we must change directions again.  We will not host a MD 2020 reunion.  However, the good news is there is still an opportunity for us to come together as a family in July 2019.  Our North Carolina Family is hosting a cookout on July 27th and have extended the invite to ALL.  In an effort to stay the schedule and still come together, we have opted to piggy-back on this pre-planned family gathering. This will be a good, old fashioned, southern cookout with plenty family, friends, and fellowship.  Hopefully this option will be doable for most and you will be able to participate.  We will not do the normal reunion type coordination and/or activities, but we will provide details on location, accommodations, etc.  More details to come.

Hello Family!

We must regrettably notify you that the 2019 Family Reunion Cruise is being canceled due to low participation.  We understand there are a number of reasons for low participation so at this time we would like to regroup and come up with an option that will work for most.  It was important to make a decision quickly to ensure no one would lose any funds already paid.  Rannieta Rothwell will reach out to each of you that have booked to step through the refund process and discuss other options.

Unfortunately the timing of this decision doesn’t leave enough time to switch direction and put in place an alternative for this year.  We met with the family points of contact last night to determine how we should move forward and the group consensus is that we make plans for a tentative July 2020 reunion.  We may do something a bit smaller scale since there is not as much time for planning purposes.  But the group thought this direction best because we didn’t want to allow too many years to get between us before getting back together again in reunion fashion.  From there we continue our 2 year tradition (2020, then 2022).

Before we move out on plans, we will reopen the voting to determine if the family is still interested in coming to Maryland.  We need everyone to be sure to vote or talk to your family points of contact to get your vote counted or make your suggestions.  Voting will open on the Monroe Cheek Family Reunion Website from March 12 through March 19.  On March 19 a decision will be made and planning will need to begin immediately for whatever direction is chosen; certainly the biggest thing here is being able to secure accommodations for that time of the year so we have to move quickly.

Be sure to check all family social media outlets to stay up to date.
